OUT NOW: Shazam Part 1 DLC Level Pack Characters for LEGO DC Super Villains (SPOILERS)

UPDATE: This pack has now been released on April 5th, 2019!

Following off of our promise on the Young Justice post, here are the characters in the first Shazam! DLC level pack for LEGO DC Super Villains.  This is the first of two packs based on the 2019 film Shazam!, which comes out this Friday, April 5th.  I got the opportunity to see this movie two weeks ago at an early showing, and I must say, it was fantastic and a great rebound for the DC Expanded Universe.  The level for the first pack is called Sivana Escape, and is based off of the toy store fight against Doctor Sivana about halfway through the film.  Be aware that the following characters contains SPOILERS FOR THE FILM.

LEGO DC Super Villains Shazam Pack 1 Characters

Billy Batson (Movie)/Shazam (Movie)

Billy Batson and Shazam! have their movie variants appear in this DLC. Billy appears quite different to his regular game version, with the movie’s brown sweatshirt and grey beanie.  Billy is played by Asher Angel in the movie, who actually voices Billy in the game!  We also have Billy’s superhero alter ego, the hero Shazam!  Shazam is also voiced by his actor, Zachary Levi, who also does the voice work for the level cutscenes (instead of Lobo)!  I love this, as it is very in-line with LEGO DC Super Villains, which was praised for getting original voice actors for the story.  His design is unfortunately similar to the base game version of Shazam, only with a different hairpiece.  Billy is fairly light in abilities with Acrobat, Photo Mode, Teleportation, and Transform.  Shazam, however, has Electricity, Flight, Electricity Protection, Toxic Gas Protection, Security Access, Photo Mode, Illumination, Hyper Jump, Smash Walls, Super Strength, Teleportation, Transform, X-Ray Vision, and Vent Travel.

Freddie Freeman/Shazam (Freddie)

Freddie Freeman is Billy’s foster brother.  He is also an avid fan of superheroes and superhero history and research, and helps Billy discover his powers and test them.  Near the climax of the movie, Freddie gains the powers of Shazam!  In the film, he only receives the power of flight, but in-game, he has almost all of the same abilities as Shazam.  One interesting detail to note is that Freddie cannot jump in-game, as he is physically disabled.  Freddie’s abilities are Projectile Rebound, Photo Mode, Illumination, Boomerang, Teleportation, and Transform.  His abilities as Shazam are Electricity, Flight, Electricity Protection, Toxic Gas Protection, Smash Walls, Security Access, Photo Mode, Hyper Jump, Super Strength, Teleportation, Transform, and Vent Travel.

The Seven Deadly Sins are formidable enemies of Shazam, and allies of Doctor Sivana.  Some people wondered how LEGO would tackle this characters in the DLC pack given their stringent “No Religion” policy.  As such, they are called the Seven Deadly Enemies of Man in the character files.  Envy is one of the seven, and also the runt of the group.  His abilities are Photo Mode, Mind Control, Dig, Acrobat, Teleportation, and Vent Travel.

Gluttony is one of the other Seven Deadly Sins, and has a marvelous design.  He has a gaping mouth that is as large as his body, and is part of his head.  Gluttony’s abilities are Photo Mode, Heat, Toxic Goo Protection, Toxic Gas Protection, and Tracking.

Pride is another one of the Seven Deadly Sins, and is also the only flying Sin.  He uses the fawn horns and Man-Bat’s wings for his in-game design.  Pride’s abilities are Teleportation, Photo Mode, Hyper Jump, Flight, and Vent Travel.

Wrath is the last playable Sin in the DLC packs.  It is worth mentioning that Sloth, Lust, and Greed do not appear in either of the DLC packs.  This is especially disappointing with Greed, as he has a very unique design in the film.  Wrath, however, still looks great, with an awesome big-fig form similar to the ape characters in the game.  Wrath’s abilities are Hyper Jump, Fire Protection, Dig, Boost Lift, Photo Mode, Smash Walls, Super Strength, Teleportation, and Wall Climbing.

And that’s all 8 characters in the first Shazam! DLC pack for LEGO DC Super Villains!  Are you excited for this pack to come out?  What did you think of Shazam!?  Let us know down the comments!
